MICHAEL WOMACK: SELF-PORTRAIT

"I’ve had a lot of body image issues in the past and coming to terms with these and growing into my own skin over the last few years has been challenging. Taking my body, breaking it down into abstract pieces, and reconstructing myself is basically what college has become for me. It’s been a time to grow, find myself, and become inspired. I have become my own creation for the first time in my life. I also identify as bisexual, which is loosely represented by the colors. The presence of the rosaries is symbolic of my religious upbringing and perhaps my Catholic guilt. In looking at the whole piece, a face may emerge. The eyes are the spinning wheels, the nose appears in the middle of the piece, and the lips are made of arms at the lower half and silenced by a hand. The wheels representthe internal and external struggles with mood and sexuality. As a whole, the piece becomes a grotesque but tasteful insight into my head."

MARIA DESROCHERS SIMULACRA

After Reading Baudrillard's "Simulacra and Simulation," Maria decided to map out all the places in the world she's never really been. (Or has she?)
JESSICA KERRY: JELLYFISH

Jessica often dreams of jellyfish. So do green turtles, she explains, as they choke on plastic bags that resemble this favorite food source. Jessica decided to transform a hazard into something beautiful by learning how to mold plastic to create these ethereal jellyfish as artwork for humans.

PHOTOGRAPHY,
CREATIVE PROCESS DEPICTION

"This picture explained exactly how I felt about my creative process. The picture is composed of dark and light spaces. These spaces could compare with my ideas, sometimes I have great ideas and other times I have terrible ones that lead me to the dark again. It is a complicated trajectory to come back from a bad idea, just like the picture. Next, some parts of the picture are in focus, while other parts fade away, just like my creativity.
TAYLOR ESTE SELF-PORTRAIT

"I take this visual project to be who I am made of and what/who has made me into the person I am today. I left the face and neck not filled in to try and represent the continuing to find my identity."

KHADIJAH HEYLIGER:  U.T. Orientation Game (Geo-Caching Adventure)
Groups led by their R.A.'s use a cell phone app to set out on an adventure and learn about the campus while bonding with new colleagues during orientation week. As each group visits a campus site, they complete a task, taking pics or video to share online along the way. For example, at the base of the "Sticks of Fire" sculpture, they take pics of the group doing yoga or pilates. Other activities Khadijah detailed take place at important locations such as the Wellness Center, the Sports Center, the Library, etc. When the week is done, all groups assemble and share stories. Khadijah will be presenting this idea to Student Productions for possible implementation on campus.
"KAT" TURNICK #DailyStruggles
Are you afraid of taking an elevator alone? Do you shrink from "handling affection?" Kat documents "daily struggles" we don't often think about--presenting them in slapstick style.
SARAH RICH CAMP TRANQUILITY
Growing up, Camp Tranquility was one of the most meaningful experiences in Sarah's life, as she participated over the years as both a guest and camp counselor. Particularly memorable to her is the expression "nobless oblige," which is defined as "the inferred responsibility of privileged people to act with generosity and nobility toward those less privileged."
RANJANA NAIV GAY RIGHTS POSTER
"49% of gay people are too scared to come out at work." This poster encourages LGBTQ people and their supporters to show their colors. Ranjana completed it using her own photography, image editing and layout in Adobe Suite
